Death and life

Why do people ask you if you are all right after a loved one dies? I mean, come on, they already know that you just want to break down and cry. But you have to say, "Yes, I'm fine. Nothing wrong here." Each time I have heard it I have just wanted to scream out, "NO, YOU DOLT. I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOU ASK ME, I HAVE HEARD IT ONE MILLION TIMES, AND I DON'T FEEL ANY BETTER."

Why is lying acceptable at funerals? A man who I know disliked my grandfather (my grandfather had tried to piss him off for twenty some years) was expected to get up and say that he was a respected colleague. How is lying about someone honoring their memory? You are making them into someone they aren't.

Maybe I made you think a little. Maybe you found me a bit crass. But this is how I feel.
